Connie Littlefield on The Sunshine Makers

The Sunshine Makers has been described as "the real-life breaking bad" and tells the story of two underground chemists who were key figures in the world of LSD and psychedelics.

Throughout the 1960s, Nicholas Sand and Tim Scully manufactured huge amounts of a drug known as Orange Sunshine. With the help of a group called the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, their creation was distributed around the world — illegally, of course.

Connie Littlefield, the film's producer and writer, spent 15 years trying to get their story on screen. Directed by Cosmo Feilding-Mellen, The Sunshine Makers premiered at Doc NYC in 2015.

Connie spoke to us about the challenges of getting the film made, the relationship between Nick and Tim, and why there is renewed interest in studying LSD. Shortly after this interview was recorded, Nick passed away in his sleep at the age of 75.
